Preface

This is the tenth edition of Resource Guide: Conferences, Workshops, and Training Opportunities for District and County Business Office Staff.  It contains over 270 offerings from more than 40 associations, organizations, and institutions.

During the past few years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of training opportunities in fiscal management and business office practices for school district personnel. Many institutions and organizations offer courses, workshops, conferences, and degree and certification programs through which training may be obtained.

With the recent enactment of AB3141, additional state-funded school business training services are being facilitated through the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT), which operates through the Kern County Superintendent of Schools.

The Resource Guide  was originally developed to assist educational business office personnel and fiscal decision makers in identifying the type, location, sponsor, and timing of training opportunities in California. That remains its chief purpose.

The publication of this directory is intended to provide current information about training opportunities for individuals who wish to enhance their skills, knowledge, and expertise.

Introduction

The guide is organized in six sections:

Conferences and Workshops for School Business Officials. This section lists conferences and workshops specifically targeted for school business officials. These programs are offered by professional associations, private organizations, universities, and so forth.

Degree Programs in School Business Administration. This section lists degree and credential programs in school business management. Entries are organized alphabetically by offering institutions in the north and south of the state.

Certificate Programs in School Business Administration. This section lists certificate programs in school business management. Entries are organized alphabetically by offering institutions in the north and south of the state. For each program a list of course offerings is provided.

Certificate Programs in General Administration. This section lists certificate programs in areas related to educational administration and school business management, including programs in accounting, information systems and technology, general management, and human relations. Entries are organized alphabetically by certificate title in the north and south of the state.

General Workshops, Conferences, and Courses. Here are listed general workshops, conferences, and so forth that are relevant for school business managers. Entries can be characterized as being of short duration, typically one to three days in length. The section is subdivided into three geographic areas: statewide, north state, and south state. These offerings are listed alphabetically within major topics.

Courses and Materials Suitable for In-House Training. This new addition to the Resource Guide lists suggested training materials, audiotapes and videotapes suitable for independent study, and on-the-job training opportunities for individuals or small groups.

The Resource Guide has been distributed statewide to superintendents and chief business officers. It is also available for purchase from the Marin County Office of Education/FCMAT (click here for price and ordering information.)
